Restoring the oldest photographs

Common 19th Century Vintage Photo Types include Daguerreotypes, Salt Prints, Albumen Prints, Carte de Visites, Ambrotypes, Tintypes, Cabinet Cards, and Hyalotypes.

Each Requires different techniques but almost all can be restored. Below is an example of a Ambrotype restoration, that handsome young man in the center is my 2nd Great Grandfather James Liberty Tadd!

A high resolution scan of the original glass plate photo was made. A variety of techniques were applied to repair, decolorize, sharpen and replace lost detail.

The resulting restored digital image is remarkably crisp and life-like. This image could now be archived digitally or sent to professional printers for paper photos and mounting.
